Set to Launch in September 2021, The Apollo Football Academy is a unique alternative to typical college programmes. It offers young people the opportunity to work with former Premier League Footballers Muzzy Izzet and Steve Walsh along with their highly qualified teaching staff.
The Apollo Football Academy aims to develop the football skills and abilities of youngsters whilst working towards a recognised qualification. Our on site educators/assessors will ensure that our students are provided with excellent support and guidance to complete their academic (BTEC) and vocational (NVQ) qualifications.
What Courses Are Available?
- Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport
Progression Routes
This qualification is a two-year, full-time course that meets entry requirements in its own right for learners who want to progress to higher education courses in sport before entering employment.
It could also lead directly to employment or an apprenticeship. Some potential careers might include PE teachers, physiotherapists/occupational therapists, personal trainers, sports journalist, commentators, sports scientists, sports coaches, sports psychologists or careers in the forces.

Students will receive daily football guidance from Muzzy Izzet and Steve Walsh, as well as weekly features in the English Colleges Football League.
Our specialist teaching staff will ensure that our students are provided with excellent support and guidance to complete their academic qualifications, as well as providing an excellent teaching and learning environment. Our Students will benefit from daily football training, as well as an ongoing fitness regime.
The Newbridge School has excellent teaching facilities as well as 4G training pitches, making it the perfect environment to enhance student’s future prospects and develop their footballing ability. Students who show a promising potential and considering good enough for pro/semi pro level, will be signposted accordingly through the utilisation of Muzzy and Steve’s professional club contacts.
Entry Requirements:
General entry requirements for level 3 study and grade 5 or higher in English Language and Science. It is not compulsory to have studied GCSE Physical Education or other sport qualifications at level 2, although it is desirable
Course Content and Assessment
The weekly programme will include training sessions, gym sessions, match analysis, classroom lessons and competitive fixtures on Wednesday afternoons. They will also have the opportunity to play showcase fixtures against professional academies. Students will be based at The Newbridge School where they will receive coaching from UEFA licensed coaches and complete the BTEC qualification.
The mandatory units covered over the 2 year course are:
- Anatomy and physiology
- Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being
- Professional Development in the Sports Industry
- Sports Leadership
- Practical Sports Performance
- Coaching for Performance
- Research Methods in Sport
- Development and Provision of Sport and Physical Activity
- Investigating Business in Sport and the Active Leisure Industry
- Skill Acquisition in Sport
There will also be 4 optional units in addition to this.
This course is being ran in partnership with ex-professional footballers Muzzy Izzet and Steve Walsh. Whilst being part of the Izzet & Walsh Apollo Academy students will live and train like professional footballers whilst completing the BTEC qualifications which is equivalent to 3 A-levels.
