Autumn Term 2020-21

July 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

As the term has drawn to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the support you have given to all of the schools within the Apollo Partnership Trust.

We are now planning for the start of a new era which sees the closing of King Edward VII College and age range change for the two high schools. The Castle Rock School becoming a key stage 3, 4 and 5 school and The Newbridge School key stage 3 and 4.

For many of us, King Edward VII has been an important part of our education and although we remember this fondly, we now look to a new future of secondary education for the young people of Coalville and its surrounding villages.

At the beginning of the Autumn term, this future will not be quite as we had originally envisaged it.

We are currently in the process of ensuring all risk mitigation plans are in place and that we are ready to welcome all of our students back to the ‘new normal’ at all of our Apollo schools. Mr Prior will be contacting parents and carers of children at Broomleys separately to this letter.

For our secondary schools, we intend to spend the first three days of the Autumn term welcoming students into our  schools on specific days only, so they can get used to being in the bubbles of their year groups.

By introducing students in stages we will be able to give them clear instructions on where they will be based, areas that will be accessible to their year group and hygiene measures that will be non-negotiable in order to keep students and staff safe.

Myself and my colleagues will be working throughout the Summer to ensure everything is in place and as such,  I will continue to keep you updated where appropriate.

To help with your personal planning, I would like to share the following information:

All students will return on Tuesday 1st September.

We are confident that we can limit social mixing as we induct students into key routines for the Autumn term ahead.

I will be writing to you with further detail in the coming weeks to reassure you that the measures the Trust are putting into place will mitigate, as far as we possibly can, against the spread of Covid-19.

I hope that by outlining the return days and times, it will give you some reassurance that our schools will be opening in the Autumn term in order to provide the best education we possibly can for our young people.

I will contact you again shortly, but in the meantime, thank you for your continued support and encouragement, this has been so important to us and has sustained us throughout this term.

With my very best wishes

Julia Patrick
